The Executive Team
Gary Barnier – CEO
Gary is an experienced executive with a background in Aged Care and Health Care senior management in both CFO and CEO roles.
He brings a wealth of experience to the role of Managing Director. His management style is based on wanting to understand every aspect of the business and leading a team that delivers meaningful change to aged care. Gary is conscious of building a strong Executive team and concentrating on getting the mission and culture of the business right, and delivering that to all residents and staff in a practical way.
Gary is a Certified Practising Accountant (FCPA) and hold a Bachelor of Business (Accounting) and a Masters of Business Administration.
Ian Thorley – Chief Operating Officer
Ian Thorley has over 30 years health and aged care experience in both Australia and overseas. Executive roles have included CEO and COO of acute private hospital groups, diagnostic services and aged and community care.
During this period he has been at the forefront of major developments that have shaped the private healthcare sector in Australia including the privatisation of public hospitals, new reimbursement and funding models, funding of academic positions by the private sector and collocated public/private sector service models.
Overseas Ian has managed diagnostic and acute healthcare businesses in the UK and UAE as well as researching and developing health care investment opportunities in emerging health economies in Eastern Europe. He has consulted to private hospitals, health insurers, health logistics and specialist health recruitment businesses throughout Australia and has held non executive roles in private health care and ASX listed companies.
James Hay – General Manager, Human Resources
James is responsible for the people strategy & systems of The Domain Principal Group. His role includes the development of the Group’s performance management system, its employee relations framework, recruitment methodology, employee communications and cultural development. James’ team works closely with National, Regional and Facility Managers in designing and implementing HR policies and processes that support a fair and humanistic workplace.
James’ Human Resources experience has been gained in the Aged Care, Health, Not for Profit, IT and Financial Services sectors at both a national and international level. As well as generalist HR consultancy, James’ background includes organisational restructuring, acquisitions & divestments, and providing HR advice to charitable organisations.
Sean Bilton – General Manager, Commercial
Sean is responsible for managing occupancy, accommodation bonds, marketing, strategic refurbishment/expansion capital expenditure and M&A.
Sean has been actively involved in the aged care industry since 2006 commencing during the acquisition of the Principal Aged Care leasehold business and continuing through the acquisition and integration of Domain Aged Care and most recently in a broader Business Development role with DPG.
Prior to DPG, Sean worked for 11 years with AMP Capital Investors as an Investment Manager in the Private Capital area responsible for managing assets in a diverse range of sectors including aged care, agriculture and resources. Sean commenced his career in the Financial Advisory business of PricewaterhouseCoopers. Sean holds a Bachelor of Economics from UNSW and is a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australia.
Geoff Flower – General Manager, Property
In a 20-year professional career Geoff brings to the team his expertise for effectively developing, selling and delivering complex business solutions.
He has a broad knowledge and skill base across a number of diverse industries such as Utilities, Systems Integration and Business Process re-engineering. Before joining the team, Geoff worked in the AMP Capital Shopping Centres as National Operations Manager using his asset management skills to improve the contractual relationships and service delivery as well as adding considerable value to their assets. His previous experience includes work with the RTA, M2 Tollway as well as BP Australia.
